An Indore couple was subjected to months-long abuse and constant threats by a man claiming to be a doctor and his associates on the pretext of IVF and surrogacy. During the process, the so-called doctor drugged and raped the woman. When she got pregnant, the couple was held hostage in a flat with 24×7 CCTV surveillance, thereby psychologically torturing them lest they tried to escape. After she gave birth prematurely, the accused forcibly took her newborn son from the hospital and continued to threaten and harass the couple.Commercial surrogacy, which involves exchange of money between the couple and the surrogate, is illegal in India. The incident came to light after the husband and wife reported it to the Indore Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh.

The couple had significant debt and were struggling to find ways to pay it off. At this time, an acquaintance introduced them to a so-called doctor, who alleged he was a specialist at a prominent hospital. He also told the couple that their money problems would be addressed if they helped a Mumbai couple, who were seeking IVF services, their lawyer told India Today. The doctor used several blank stamp papers and copies of Aadhaar cards to conduct IVF on the woman, as many as three times. He and his associates also constantly threatened the couple into obliging and following the process to the T. However, when the IVF failed, the doctor forcibly took the woman to a hotel before drugging and raping her.Once the woman got pregnant, the accused continued to threaten the couple and confined them in a flat with 24×7 CCTV surveillance. On the eighth month of her pregnancy, she experienced some problems and was taken to a hospital, where she gave birth to a son. However, the doctor and his associates forcibly took the child, formatted the husband’s phone, and threatened to implicate him in a false case. The couple was then called to the Dussehra Maidan in Indore to meet the child, where they were threatened with a pistol. According to the woman, the doctor’s associates prepared a fake compensation agreement, death certificate for the child and some other false documents to keep pressuring the couple. The couple fears the accused doctor is planning to flee overseas and that the child’s life is in danger.- EndsPublished On: Feb 25, 2026
