A 23-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend after she refused to marry him. The incident occurred around 8.30 p.m. on Sunday, on Pipeline Road in the Mahalakshmi Layout Police Station limits, in Bengaluru.The deceased has been identified as Anjali, 23. The police arrested the accused, Rajeev, soon after the incident.According to the police, Anjali and Rajeev had known each other for nearly four years. They were colleagues and had been in a relationship. Their families were aware of the relationship. However, Anjali’s family opposed the marriage due to Rajeev’s criminal background, as he is named in three cases. Respecting her family’s decision, Anjali had reportedly begun distancing herself from Rajeev, but he continued to pressure her to marry him.On Sunday evening, Rajeev allegedly invited Anjali for dinner on Pipeline Road. During the meeting, the issue of marriage resurfaced. An argument broke out between the two after Anjali refused his proposal again. In a fit of rage, Rajeev allegedly stabbed her in the neck with a knife.Residents rushed Anjali to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.The Mahalakshmi Layout police, who rushed to the spot, arrested Rajeev and registered a case. Further investigation is under way.Another woman found deadIn another case, a 40-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her rented room at Muniyappa Layout in Hongasandra under Bommanahalli Police Station limits.The deceased has been identified as Krishna Barman, 40, a native of West Bengal who was living alone and working as a cook.According to the police, neighbours noticed that the door to her room had remained closed for an unusually long time. They alerted the police late on Sunday night. The police broke open the door, and found Krishna dead inside the room.The police suspect that she may have been smothered to death by someone known to her, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.The body has been shifted to a government hospital for an autopsy. The police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and are questioning residents to identify the culprit and establish the motive behind the murder.
