A 30-year-old software engineer in Hyderabad was murdered allegedly by her former husband, also a software engineer, at her apartment, police said. The accused stabbed her multiple times and struck her on the head with a flower pot.
The former husband, identified as Mahesh, who had reportedly been working abroad, allegedly entered the apartment and attacked Sunitha with two sharp-edged weapons, believed to be a knife and a sickle. She died on the spot due to the injuries.
The incident occurred at around 12.15 pm on Wednesday.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had divorced in 2024. Police suspect that Mahesh bore a grudge against Sunitha following their separation, her recent second marriage, and a domestic violence case she had filed against him. Investigators are also examining claims that the pending case had affected his ability to travel abroad.
Following the incident, police swiftly traced and apprehended the accused in the vicinity. He was taken into custody and is said to have made certain preliminary disclosures during questioning.
A case has been registered at the Vanasthalipuram Police Station. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
